I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again … we live in a fantastic community! Once again the people of the Brockville area stepped up to help those in need. Our charity auction last night took in a record $80,000! The generosity was absolutely amazing. From African Safari’s to Autographed NHL Hockey Jersey’s and even several opportunities for straight donations, the crowd came through again and again.
Our guests were greeted by our children in the “Respite from Radiation” program and our interpreters with the traditional Belarusian offering of bread and salt. Some were dressed in traditional costume as well.
It was an evening of dining, entertainment, heartfelt stories, CAC successes, recognition, gratitude and generosity. Throughout the evening the children performed a variety of songs to entertain our guests.
Once again our major sponsor was Northern Cables, a real local success story, who have jumped at the opportunity to support this event year after year. Our masterful MC was once again Steve Clark our local MPP and Carrie Hands of Hands Auction Services did an absolutely marvelous job again this year. Carrie has been donating her time as our auctioneer since 1994.
All of the children were on stage for a final song and to thank everyone for all of the help given to them and their community.
We would also like to recognize Oyster Bay Wines Eastern Ontario, Photovisions School Photography, Bell and the Brockville Country Club for their generous support.
One of the many highlights of the evening came when Dave Shaw talked about our commitment to the Chausy Orphanage to raise enough funds to renovate 8 of the children’s bedrooms. When Carrie Hands asked if anyone would be willing to donate $500 to pay for one of the bedrooms, 18 paddles were held up! Just like that, we had enough money to renovate all 18 rooms!
The evening was filled with many moments like this and in the end we raised more money than any other individual fund raising event! Thank you Brockville and area, we continue to be awed by your compassion and generosity!
