Agriculture Program

After years of the Chausy Orphanage operating with critical food shortages in late winter and early spring, Canadian Aid for Chernobyl
introduced the Agricultural Program in 2005. Through the support of our donors, we continue to provide the machinery, equipment, and seeds needed to harvest sufficient potatoes and various vegetables for the entire year. In fact, for the last several harvests they have yielded a surplus and the children took their produce to market.

In 2011, our supporters, Heather Howard and Jeff & Leanne Butler helped us expand this program and we built a state-of-the-art poultry barn. With the guidance of poultry specialists from Burnbrae Farms we now maintain 100 laying hens and 50 broilers.

This initiative is spearheaded by Margaret Campbell, an officer of our board from Chatham, Ontario and is dedicated to the memory of her late husband David.
