Orphan Education Program

Children living in state-run Orphanages are also educated on these premises from grades one through nine. After graduation, these children are relocated to various other villages or cities and expected to continue their predetermined studies and trades with little or no government support. These children, through despair, often must resort to the streets. Suicide, teenage pregnancy, alcohol abuse and even prison terms are at a disturbingly high rate.

Canadian Aid for Chernobyl has developed an education program aimed at providing stability, security and encouragement to students who commit to continuing their education and pursuing a career. Orphans have the opportunity to interact with a sponsor through email and develop a bond of trust never experienced before. Students who demonstrate good behavior, attend regularly, and achieve acceptable grades are rewarded monthly.
