Connecting Students a World Apart

I have finally arrived in Chausy and the delegates that arrived before me have been hard at work.  The 3 containers have arrived, been unloaded and sorted in the gym at School #1.  Rhona has been busy meeting and interviewing children for our summer “Respite from Radiation” program and Sarah Lewis has been working with the 3 graduating girls at the Chausy Orphanage.  Sarah’s project links these girls with students in Brockville through a video project called “Tell My Story”.  So far the girls have spent a lot of time together getting to know each other and laying the groundwork for the videos they will produce.  Here Sarah reviews some footage with Katya, Karina and Yana.

Sarah’s focus is on learning new technology and having new experiences while
having fun during the process.  They will produce 3 videos with the themes; facing your fears, overcoming obstacles and finding your passion.  The girls are really enjoying this project and have been storyboarding, scripting and have started shooting.  Here Sarah captures some video of the children running to the cafeteria for lunch.

The girls have watched the videos produced by the Canadian students and are now working on complimentary videos which be edited together.  Sarah has made a great impression on these girls.  They have been shopping together, made homemade pizza and had a movie night.  Needless to say the girls are enjoying the time and attention.

These girls have grown up together in this orphanage and each have their own difficult story to be told.  It is wonderful for them to feel connected to girls their age from the other side of the world and to see and feel that life can sometimes be difficult no matter where you live.  This will be a wonderful emotional boost as they graduate from this school and move on into adulthood and the next phase of their lives, where CAC will continue to support and encourage them to stay on this new path that they have embraced.

congratulations Sarah for the wonderful opportunities, as well as the impact you are having on these girls! In return, they will bless you with an unforgettable experience, and will touch your life in many ways.
Continue on this journey of bridging the gap between our two cultures, as you are providing both group of students with knowledge and faith that will benefit them throughout their lives. Awesome job!!
