Three airplanes, four airports and approximately 24 hours after leaving home, I arrived in Chausy. Of course the first thing that my host family did was feed me and I’m pretty sure my “host Mom” is convinced I haven’t eaten since last spring!
This morning I was picked up by our driver, Volodya (everyone calls him Bobby) along with Dave and our interpreter Natasha. We sorted out cell phones and banking and then headed over to see our warehouse. In the past we have been using the gym in school #1 for our warehouse but this year it is under construction so we had to find alternate accommodations. We have the loan of this storage location near the train station:
It has been a very busy time getting ready for this trip. We loaded the containers on Monday and Tuesday this week and they have now started their journey to Belarus. Here a group of our volunteers, including Alex McKenzie, Pat Yuille, Ron Karas, Ed Grady and Jason Gaudin, fill every nook and cranny to make sure we fit everything in.
Tonight a great gang of volunteers, which included both Brockville Rotary Clubs, came together and packed 612 food boxes in 30 seconds! OK, we have a video below that is only 30 seconds, the actual time was closer to 90 minutes, but everyone had a great time and still managed to pack a box every 9 seconds! Thanks to everyone that came out. The containers with the food will be leaving towards the end of the month in order to meet our delegates at the end of March, so stay tuned for plenty of updates and lots of activity.
