Humanitarian Aid Program

During the Soviet Era, the territory of Belarus was largely agricultural; harvesting potatoes, grain and flax that was distributed throughout the Soviet Union. Radioactive fallout devastated more than 25% of the agriculture land, crippling the industry, leaving thousands to rely on social welfare and thereby creating an economic crisis. Through the overwhelming generosity of Canadians, Canadian Aid for Chernobyl has successfully distributed non-perishable food, clothing, footwear, hygiene products and household items to thousands of impoverished villagers throughout the contaminated regions.Canadian Aid for Chernobyl is recognized by the Belarusian Government as one of the three most active humanitarian organizations working within the Republic of Belarus. Canadian Aid for Chernobyl relies on the generosity of its volunteers and donations from individuals, businesses and industries to carry out this work.
